Back in January I made a post about trying to rank better at GrownUpGeek.com for the term “Geek”. This is my first update since then and I guess my SEO is paying off. So far we have dropped from a Google ranking of 788 to as low as 251, and (as of today) 326. Not too bad for a total of 15 minutes of SEO.
These are some of the things I did:
- Used the Drupal WordFilter module to change every instance of the word “Geek” into a link to the main page, with the anchor text “geek” (only for two weeks)
- Used the Drupal PathAuto module to add the word “geek” into the URL of every new forum post (only for two weeks)
- Made a few posts from here at the blog with the word Geek anchor-text in links to the site
- Used the WordFilter module in Drupal to change all those Geek links to bold-text
- Added links with the word Geek as the anchor text to some of the Myspace codes we have at the site.. These get pasted into people’s Myspace pages, resulting in links to the site.
As I said, I probably spent no more than 15 minutes doing these things, and I was able to drop (or rise?) in the SERPS by about 50% – this for a search term with over 50,000,000 results.
Check back in a month or so for another update.
