Drupal BuddyList Module

Enable buddy list functionality: Allows you to add other site users to your buddy list, organize these into groups, and monitor their content. It is a basic building block for anyone wishing to make a social networking site in Drupal. The 4.7 version is much more feature-rich than the 4.6 version. Allows integration with other modules, such as Invite, to do things like add invited members to buddylists automatically. The word “buddy” can now be changed altogether by editing the translations array at the top of the buddylist.module file.

We’ve been using the Drupal BuddyList module for a long time now and it’s one of the member’s favorites.  Buddy-List allows members to create simple ‘friends lists’ (aka Buddies), making it easy to track their posts, send messages, etc.   Because it’s customizable, you can change the term “buddy” to whatever you want – in our case we call it our “GuG’ee List” (GuG’ee is how the Grown Up Geek.com members refer to themselves).

We’ve added the BuddyList block, which displays the member’s list of “buddies” (and avatars) to the member-profile page, which makes the site very Myspace-like, and “social”.  We restrict the use of the BuddyList module, as well as access to view other member’s profile-pages to Premium Members only.  This helps to keep out stalkers, trolls and other riff-raff, and it also adds a bit of value for the Premium Members.
