After putting it off for almost 2 years, I’ve finally decided to make the upgrade from Drupal 4.7 to 5.1. My hand is being forced a bit by the ongoing issues we’ve been having, but I really am looking forward to all the new features that Drupal 5.x provides.
Over the last few evenings I’ve been setting up the test-site and tonight I actually went thru the upgrade process on the test-database. To my surprise it went very smooth, and I only encountered a few minor issues.. Critical modules, like Taxonomy Access Control, which controls the permissions on our premium content had no issues whatsoever. As a matter of fact, all the testing went so well that I’m now planning to upgrade the production site on Friday.
I’ve been testing for the last 7 hours so i’m going to bed – after the production upgrade I will post all the step-by-step instructions for those interested in doing a similar upgrade.
Upgrading from 4.7 to 5.1 is quite a step. I think it is a time to think to move towards 6th drupal as most important modules like vievs, and CCK are about to be ready. Good luck with upgrading
