Defined: Googlebating

Sexy Google ImageGoog·le·bate: verb, -bat·ed, -bat·ing.

  • get searching gratification through keyboard-stimulation
  • manual stimulation of the keyboard (of yourself or another) for internet pleasure
  • to search the internet of (oneself or another) to achieve information discovery
  • refers to stimulation of a person’s keyboard, usually to the point of information-discovery. The stimulation can be performed manually, by other types of input (mouse, trackpad, voice-command), by use of objects or tools, or by some combination of these methods.  Self Googlebation is a common form of internet time wasting. Googlebation with a partner, called mutual Googling, is also common.  Men and women have Googlebation techniques and characteristics in common, but also have specific preferences in the ways they like to Googlebate or be Googlebated. Studies have found that Googlebation is frequent in advanced internet users and beginners and across all ages, although there is variation. Various medical and psychological benefits have been attributed to a healthy attitude to the internet in general and to Googlebation in particular, and no causal relationship is known between Googlebation and any form of mental or physical disorder. Acts of Googlebation have been celebrated in art worldwide since the internet became popular. While there was a period (spanning between the late 1990′s and early 2004) when it was subject to social censure and social conservatism, it is considered a normal part of healthy internet life today. There have been Googlebation marathons and internet service slogans such as “an search a day keeps the doctor away”. It is commonly mentioned in popular music as well as on television, in films and in literature.

Relieve Your Adsense Stats Blockages

I have lacked both the time and motivation necessary to write a new post, so I’m reposting one of my old favorites from all the way back in July 2006:

GooglePlex-Lax - for gentle relief

GooglePlex-Lax - for gentle relief

For obsessive users of Google AdSense stats, one of the most frustrating things can be Updation Delaytion.

Updation Delaytion occurs when Google’s AdSense statistics pipes get backed up and the AdSense stats page doesn’t update for extended amounts of time. During this time your AdSense stats become irregularly bloated and backed-up. Usually a large Click-dump comes at the end of updation delaytion resulting in a huge, sudden update of your stats. The sense of satisfaction after a large click-dump is almost indescribable, however because of the pain and discomfort that most users experience during updation-delaytion, most users seek immediate relief at the first sign of and stat back-up or slow-down.

Thankfully the GooglePlex now offers Plex-Lax for gentle, effective relief of Updation Delaytion.

How To Tell Someone You’ve Banned Them

Every day we manually ban 4 or 5 users from the site.  Usually these are spammer or scraper IP’s, sometimes they are actual members or visitors that have gone out of their way to break our rules.

We use the Drupal Troll module to ban members & IP’s  which allows you to redirect banned members to a static HTML page that you create.  Of course you can make this static page say anything you want, like “fug off, you’re banned“, but that just gives someone reason to get even more pissed-off.  I usually keep our ‘banned’ page disguised as some sort of error message, and when I get bored I change it.  Last night I was bored so I updated the page again, this time in a more creative way than usual.  You can see our current “you are banned” page here: ->  You are banned! That should throw them off..
